Project Management

PMI defines in PMBOK project management as the discipline “application of knowledge, skills, techniques and tools in project activities to meet project requirements.” A rather complex definition, maybe even cumbersome, which needs some explanation to be digested as easily as possible.

Project management as applicability in IT

Basically, project management is put into practice by applying and integrating the processes related to initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and control. Among the activities of a project manager are certainly notions such as identifying requirements, setting objectives, quality-cost-time-objectives balance, adapting to the needs and expectations of beneficiaries.

Project management in different activities and fields

Project management is applied differently, depending on the company or the field of activity. The multitude of common elements in the activities that define project management, regardless of the area of application, make project management an independent discipline, while its particularities delimit it from other types of management. However, effective project management is largely based on general management skills and knowledge.
